There seems to be a common misconception that candles are for winter.
Cosy evenings.
Dark nights.
Blankets.
Christmas films.
And whilst I love all of those things, I actually think scent becomes even more important in summer.
Stay with me.
Because summer brings its own smells.
Open windows.
Warm air.
Dogs wandering in and out.
Bathrooms working overtime.
Bins that seem to develop a personality of their own.
And a house that can go from feeling beautifully fresh to feeling a little bit stale almost overnight.
Which is why I become slightly obsessed with home fragrance at this time of year.
Not because I'm trying to hide anything.
But because scent completely changes how your home feels.
The Scent Of Summer? Sundown.
If I had to bottle the feeling of a perfect summer evening, it would probably smell like Sundown.
Soft peony.
Juicy pear.
A fragrance that somehow feels bright and relaxing at the same time.
It's the scent I light when dinner is finished, the patio doors are open and there's a cold glass of rosé waiting.
Not a loud fragrance.
Not a heavy fragrance.
Just one of those scents that quietly makes everything feel a little bit nicer.
The kind of candle that makes an ordinary Tuesday evening feel like you've escaped somewhere for the night.
When Your Home Needs A Lift
You know those days when your house isn't dirty...
But it doesn't feel particularly fresh either?
That's when I reach for Grapefruit & Mangosteen.
Fresh.
Bright.
Crisp.
I particularly love it after cooking, after a busy weekend or whenever the house feels a little bit flat.
It's impossible not to feel more awake when it's burning or the best diffuser to bring any hallway alive
The Secret To A Fresh Bathroom
Let's be honest.
Bathrooms become much harder work in summer.
Warmer temperatures, extra showers, damp towels and all the other glamorous realities of family life.
Which is exactly why Coast diffusers live permanently in my bathrooms.
Fresh.
Clean.
Airy.
Without smelling like a cleaning product.
I genuinely think a diffuser in the bathroom is one of the simplest things you can do to make your whole home feel fresher.
Every time you walk past, you get that little hit of freshness.
And when guests visit, they notice too.
Summer Homes Should Smell Different
One thing I've learned over the years is that we naturally change so many things with the seasons.
We change our clothes.
We change our food.
We spend more time outdoors.
But many of us never change the way our homes smell.
Winter fragrances make sense in winter.
But summer deserves its own scent story too.
Something lighter.
Brighter.
Fresher.
Something that matches open windows, longer evenings and slower days.
For me, that's exactly what Sundown, Coast and Grapefruit & Mangosteen do.
They're the scents I reach for every single summer.
And honestly?
I think our homes need them more than ever.
