August Always Feels Like a Funny Month Reading One of Those Weeks... 3 minutes

Some weeks just feel like you're spinning plates... and this has definitely been one of them.

Truth be told, I could not think of a single thing to write about this week – my brain is frazzled and hormones are causing extra confusion (the struggle is real).

It's 6am (Wednesday). I'm sitting in bed with my laptop, coffee in hand, wondering if I've finally run out of things to say.

Then I realised... maybe that's the blog.

This week has just been... full.

The school holidays are nearly over here in Scotland, which means next week I'll have my lovely team back. We've always worked around the school holidays, so for the last few weeks it's pretty much been me trying to keep all the plates spinning.

Don't get me wrong, I've had some lovely downtime too. It was my birthday at the weekend, we had a brilliant day in Edinburgh, wandered around the Festival, ate far too much Italian food and discovered that interactive darts is ridiculously good fun. (Although... does anyone else spend half the Fringe thinking, "Just get on with the show!" 😂)

Then Monday arrived.

And wow.

Orders, emails, invoices, suppliers, DHL, stock, packing, planning Sunday's market... it all seemed to land at once.

But I do know - I am my own worst enemy.

I absolutely hate the feeling of work building up – and sometimes my mind makes it so much worse than it is.

I'd much rather have two completely crazy days, clear my desk, clear the orders and know everything's under control than drag it out all week – especially if it’s sunny outside!

Lisa came in for a few hours to help, and honestly, I don't know what I'd have done without her.

Fast forward to this morning and I'm finally starting to feel like I've caught my breath.

Not completely...

I've still got Sunday's market to prepare for and a list beside me that's definitely longer than I'd like.

But this afternoon I'm off for a facial and massage. Birthday pennies well spent, if you ask me.

And I already know what I'll be doing tonight.

Once the laptop is shut, the last email has been answered and the day's finally done, I'll light a candle

It's become a bit of a ritual for me.

Not because I'm trying to make the house smell nice (although that's a bonus), but because it's my little signal that the working day is over. That it's time to stop thinking about tomorrow's list and just be at home.

I think we can all be guilty of believing we'll relax once everything is done.

The trouble is...

Everything is never really done.

There'll always be another email, another order, another job waiting to be ticked off.

Sometimes you've just got to call it a day anyway.

Here's hoping the sun comes out this week, everyone gets a chance to slow down for a little while, and if you're anything like me, I hope you find a small moment that's just for you.

See you next week.
